So I'm always so impressed when she seems to pick up on things that I don't deliberately sit down and teach her. With Jacob I worked on his colors, numbers, and shapes on a daily basis. I realize that I just don't do this as much with Abby. So this morning when I went in to pick her up out of her crib (my favorite daily interaction with her) and she shouted, "Mommy...purple!" while pointing at my purple sweater I couldn't help but be so proud of my little girl. It's amazing how much she aborbs and takes in.
And then I also realized that she has two teachers now...both myself and Jacob. So instead of getting down on myself when I don't always have the time to sit with her individually and teach her the things that I taught Jacob, my heart is warmed by the thought that her "big" brother is now a teacher, taking the things that I have taught him and passing them on to his sister.

I feel like Abel teaches Amariah a lot of things, too! It makes me thankful that I have taught Abel well. :-)
My big brother taught me to read and he is the one who taught me that the Bible has something of worth in there. It is not just to 'show oneself approved' but it is a help and a joy for us to have. Big brothers are fantastic teachers, and as she gets older, he will be able to get through to her in ways that are only possible for him (not for you or her dad).
I know what you mean about the guilt. I have three children and my first one had SO much more attention. I can really feel guilty sometimes, and lately I have had some of that guilt creeping in. Thank you so much for this post.
