Crafty Mama

I decided a couple weeks ago that I needed a backup costume idea since it had been in the 90's and I couldn't imagine putting Jacob in his vinyl Buzz Lightyear outfit for all of the upcoming costume parties. (Since then it has cooled down quite a bit, though.)

Out of this brainstorming came the idea to dress up Jacob as Peter Pan (who he is obsessed with lately) and Abby as Tinkerbell. Since I'd already spent money on their other costumes, I decided to go the frugal route and make these ones. Peter Pan's costume was super easy and cost me about $5 total. I was concerned that Tinkerbell would be pricier--I planned to make a tutu and nice tulle can get costly when you need yards and yards. While at the fabric store I found it! An already made tutu on clearance at 50% off! And they even had the matching wand and fairy wings at the same discount! So I began getting creative...

I planned to remove the pink rosebuds and replace them with green poms-poms. And that's when it took on an entirely different new life form! I found fabric spray paint and had a great time painting the tutu (and my hands as well...I looked like the Jolly Green Giant). I found some great furry trim and voila! My finished product. They'll be wearing their new outfits tomorrow for a dress up party so I'll be sure to post pictures of my two little Disney characters.
